Eight Memorable Swimming Pool Scenes From the 2000s
Some of cinema’s most memorable scenes take place in or around the local or backyard swimming pool. It’s a Wonderful Life, The Graduate, Caddyshack and Fast Times at Ridgemont High are just some of the classic flicks featuring a famous in ground rectangle or oval filled with water. With summer winding down, it seems like an ideal time to tip our hat to a few more movie pools. Here are eight from the 2000s sure to whet the appetite.
Let’s start things off with a bang. Or in this case, a slinghsot. Only the crazy crew from Jackass could devise such a wet and wild stunt. Don’t try this at home. If you do, prepare to be injured.
Odds are you haven’t seen this teen slasher film starring luscious lesbian Amber Heard. For some strange reason, it’s not even available on Netflix. Nevertheless, it’s bloody entertaining and includes a drunken jock taking a dangerous leap of faith.
Zach Braff’s directorial debut is a little whiny, but it does contain a handful of charming bits highlighted by this exchange between Braff and the always adorable Natalie Portman, who plays the girl too good to be true.
One of 2009’s unappreciated gems, Adventureland deftly details the uncertainty of life after high school. Jesse Eisenberg and Kristin Stewart are the leading couple who share a late night dip that results in an embarrassing moment. We’ve all been there.
Swimming in the principal’s pool after hours is near the bottom of the list of things I want to do with a porn star, but it makes for an amusing and titillating scene, especially when said porn star is portrayed by Elisha Cuthbert.
The thought of sitting through a French film might make you cringe, but trust me when I say Swimming Pool is worth the watch. Sexy Ludivine Sagnier spends most of the duration either nude or semi-nude. I’ll wait why you add it to your Netflix queue.
If a boulder rolls off a mountain and crashes into my pool, I’m going to call it a harbinger of bad things to come. Ex-thief Gal Dove kinda sorta agrees with my assessment, but he still gets mixed up with the psychotic Don Logan.
If you have yet to see Summer Catch, allow me to save you time and money. The following 30-second clip tells you all you need to know about the “plot.” You’re welcome. Staying on topic, Jessica Biel’s body belongs in the Smithsonian.
Honorable Mention: This scene from Let the Right One In would’ve made the list, but the copyright cops won’t allow an embeddable clip. Watch it here. It kicks ass.
