2018 Oscars Predictions : 90th Academy Awards

Oscars 560x417Fans of the Academy Awards are going to have to wait until March 4th to enjoy the 90th Annual Oscars, on ABC, after it was decided to push the event back instead of trying to compete with NBC’s coverage of the Winter Olympics. It will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, making him the first back-to-back host of the Oscars since Billy Crystal did it back in 1997 and 1998. If there was anyone that could make light of the multiple sexual assault and harassment charges going on throughout Hollywood, it would be Jimmy Kimmel (So be prepared to watch his opening monologue, it is expected to be full of burns and memorable one-liners).

For those of you who are not familiar with the Oscars, there are a few things you need to know. First of all, it is the premier award ceremony honoring the previous year’s best of the best in film. From original screenplay to best foreign film, all 24 categories of the Academy Awards are presented over the course of three, or maybe three and a half, hours (It is infamous for running over the allotted time).

Winning an Oscar is a game-changer in Hollywood. After winning one, you no longer are introduced by your name alone. The title, Academy Award winner, will become the winner’s salutation and always remain attached to your name. It is an accomplishment that never goes away. It is for life.

However, there is always going to be criticism and scandals surrounding the nominees, winners, losers, and the ones that did not even get noticed. Since there is a limit to the number of nominees and winners, there are always going to be fans that are upset but that is not the part that draws criticism. It is the studios spending millions of dollars marketing specific feature films during the “Oscar Season” and focusing solely on making a winner that stirs up the most controversy. It’s almost as if you can buy your way into a nomination.

So now that you know about the Academy Awards, let’s go ahead and take a look at all of the nominations for the 90th Academy Awards set to air on ABC, this Sunday, March 4th. Enjoy.
