Best Prison movie of all time “A Prophet” (French title “Un Prophete”) a thriller about a young French-Arab man's immersion into prison gang culture, which took 2nd place at Cannes Festival 2009. It's just going on general release – not to be missed.

I agree with other commenter…sort of. “American Me” was an excellent prison (and chilling) film, but I'm more miffed that “The Dirty Dozen” was excluded…yes, it didn't take place strictly in prison, but it was a bunch of prisoners…oh well, maybe it's just considered a war movie.

What about American Me??? That was way better than many of these films. It's also based on true events many in law enforment have talked about.
