Squirrel Girl Appreciates Squirrel Appreciation Day
While everyone over on the east side of the nation battens down the hatches for BLIZZ-MAGEDDON 2016, why not cozy on up in front of your internet searching device and join us in celebrating International Squirrel Day before you’re buried up to your armpits in snow?
That’s right, besides being an astoundingly shitty day for you New Englanders, and besides it also being my son, Simon’s 13th birthday (he’ll love seeing his name in type), it also happens to be -inexplicably- a day set aside for those puffy-tailed rats that screw up your bird feeders and scare the crap out of your dogs. Neat!
Here’s the most I could find about this bizarre day, “Christy Hargrove from Asheville, North Carolina started Squirrel Appreciation Day on January 21, 2001. Christy is a wildlife rehabilitator in North Carolina, and is is affiliated with the Western North Carolina Nature Center.” This from holidayinsights.com. Fun!
But we’re not going to celebrate in any traditional sense by showing cute pictures of squirrel memes or videos of squirrels doing ridiculous things. Oh, Hell no! We’re going to celebrate by putting up pics of everyone’s favorite Marvel Superhero based completely on said rodent… Squirrel Girl! So without further pause or explanation, check out Squirrel Girl!
